(DailyMail)It is a social media phenomenon.

But, while it's usually enjoyed by celebrities and their teenage fans, one of the world's biggest fast-food chains is now using Snapchat for recruitment. According to a report by News.com.au, McDonald's Australia has teamed-up with the app to modernise how aspiring employees apply for jobs.

The antipodean branch of the multi-million pound company, which boasts more than 36,000 branches worldwide, has devised a special filter for the process.

This allows aspiring employees to try on the famous uniform and visualise themselves in the role.

They will also be asked to film a ten-second Snapchat video as part of their application.

Once received, jobseekers will then be redirected back to the website's careers section where they can download a traditional application form.

Mr Shaun Ruming, chief operating officer of McDonald's Australia, told News.com.au that while the clip wouldn't replace the traditional hiring process, it would form part of the application.

'It certainly won't replace a thorough face-to-face interview, but we'll obviously take it into account,' he said.

'I've learnt a lot about Snapchat recently from my 14-year-old daughter,' he added, referencing Australia's four million daily Snapchat users - the overwhelming majority of whom are under 18 years old.

'We think this is actually a world first. Snaplications is basically a Snapchat 'lens' that gives users the ability to apply for a job — or at least commence that process — by sending a 10-second snap.

'We're the largest employer of youth in the country, so we're trying to look for new and innovative ways to recruit crew people.' The McDonald's Snapchat filter will be live in Australia from Friday.
